Caption reads: Lydia and Abraham Bixler, parents of Moses Bixler...."

The earliest known record of Abraham and Lydia Bixler is the 1850 Federal Census of Bethel Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, enumerated on 22 October (Abraham and Lydia were the last two entries recorded on the page 308, the remainder of the household was continued on page 309):

#162 186    Abraham Bixler    38    m    Laborer    " [Pa.]
                 Lydia        do.     25     f                   "
#162 186    Leah Bixler           6     f                   Pa.
                 John  do.              5    m                  do.
                 Mary  "                 3     f                   "
                 Eliza  "                 1     f                   "
From the 1850 census data, Abraham and Lydia were probably married in about 1843 in Pennsylvania, since their first child, Leah, was born in about 1844.  There were several Bixler families in Berks County, Pennsylvania, during that time frame, most of which are outlined beginning on page 1020, in "The Historical and Biographical Annals of Berks County Pennsylvania" compiled by Morton L. Montgomery, published by J. H. Beers & Company of Chicago in 1909.  If Abraham did come from one of the Berks County families, we have been unable to make a connection to determine his parentage.  Lydia's name is listed as "Lydia Bressler", on many other web pages researching the Bixler family, however, I have also not connected her with any of the Bressler families.  Abraham and Lydia's whereabouts in 1860 also remains a mystery.  I cannot explain what happened to the first set of children listed in the 1850 census: Leah, John, Mary and Eliza Bixler.  None of those children appear in the 1870 census, however, it is possible that they were all married and living on their own after 20 years.  In the 1870 Federal Census of Franklin Township, Darke County, Ohio their household listed:
#252 247    Bixler, Abraham    58    m    Farm hand            400    645    Penna.
Lydia    47     f     Keeping house                        Penna.
                          Catherine   16     f     Dom.servant                           Penna.
Isaac        14    m    Works on farm                         Penna.
Moses       12    m    Works on farm                         Penna.
Eli              7    m    Attending school                      Ohio
Lydia          4     f     At home                                 Ohio
Sarah          1     f     At home                                 Ohio
Ten years later Abraham and Lydia were still living in Franklin Township.  Abraham was now age 68, Lydia was 57 years old.  The older children were now married or living on their own.  Still living at home were their two youngest daughters: Lydia, age 14 and Sarah, age 11.

By 1880 Abraham and Lydia's son Moses was already in Kansas.  Lydia's death and place of burial are unknown, Abraham did make it to Missouri where Moses eventually settled.  Abraham lived until 1893, he died at the age of 81 and is buried in Dice Cemetery, in Fairview, Franklin Township, Newton County, Missouri.

The children of Abraham Bixler and Lydia Bixler were:

1. Leah Bixler, was born in about 1844 in Pennsylvania.

2. John Bixler, was born in about 1845 in Pennsylvania.

3. Mary Bixler, was born in about 1847 in Pennsylvania.

4. Eliza Bixler, was born in about 1849 in Pennsylvania.

5. Isaac Bixler, was born in about 1856 in Pennsylvania and died in 1913 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Isaac married Eliza Ann Penny, the daughter of Elisha and Elizabeth Penny, in Darke County, Ohio:

Bixler, Isaac      Penny, Eliza A.         8 Jan. 1880, by S. Willis, M.G.
Ten years before their marriage, in 1870, Eliza was living in Franklin Township, Darke County, in the household of her parents:

Susanna            8   f     Attending school                         Ohio
                          Elisha A.           5   m    Attending school                         Ohio

Isaac and Eliza first appeared living together in the 1880 census, after their marriage that same year in Franklin Township, Darke County, Ohio ED# 58, on page 91D, with no children (the census was taken on 10 June, Eliza must have been about 4 months pregnant with her daughter Cloa).  Isaac, age 24, born in Pennsylvania, listed his occupation as a farm laborer, and Eliza A., age 20, born in Ohio, listed her occupation as keeping house.  The Bixler's must have moved from in and around the northwest Ohio area from 1880 to about 1900, each of their children below stated that they were born in different locations.  Roscoe and Ivan, both stated that they were born in Michigan.  Isaac and Eliza were finally located in the 1900 Federal Census of Decatur Township, Van Buren County, Michigan, ED# 139, sheet 6A, enumerated on the 16th and 18th of June (Isaac and Eliza both stated that they had been married for 20 years; Eliza also stated that she had given birth to 13 children of which 6 were still living-Cloa would be the sixth, Ivan wasn't born until 1902, the baby was Roscoe):

In the 1910 Federal Census of Richland Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, ED# 161, sheet 7A, enumerated on 27 April, their household listed (Isaac and Eliza both stated that they had been married for 29 years; Eliza stated that she had given birth to 12 children, 7 of whom were still living):

#173 173    Bixler, Isaac    Head    54    Pennsylvania    Carpenter

I did locate Eliza in the 1920 Federal Census, 7 years after Isaac's death, living and working as a "housekeeper" for a "private family", in the home of William P. Phelan, in Comstock Township, ED# 144.  Eliza was 59 years old, widowed and stated that she was born in Ohio.  Isaac died in 1913 and and Eliza died ten years later in 1923 (their obituaries).  His death record from Kalamazoo County Deaths, Book 4, page 170, #14793, listed the following information:

"Isaac Bixler, male, white, married, age 57 y 2 m 3 d
Died in Kalamazoo on 5 June 1913 of "gastro intestinal catarrh and chlorde anemia"
Carpenter; born in Pennsylvania
Father:  Abram Bixler
Mother:  "unknown"
Parents' residence unknown"
Eliza's death record from Kalamazoo County Deaths, 1925, page 7, #32:
"Eliza Ann Bixler, female, white, widowed, age 65 y 2 m 29 d
Died in Kalamazoo Township 15 July 1925 of endocardites [sic]
Housewife, born in Ohio
Father:  Elisha Penny, born Ohio
Mother:  Eliza Ann Waymire, born Ohio"
Isaac and Eliza are both buried in Riverside Cemetery, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  I cannot explain the spelling of her name as "Elizan", on her marker, except to say that it should read "Eliza Ann", and may have been a mistake by the engraver.
