Archives for this mail list exist, they
contain all messages previously posted to the list. The
archives are available through links provided on the site
navigation bar.

There is a list of genealogical resources,
both free and commercial, available on the Mail List Resource
Page which can be accessed through the link provided on the
site navigation bar. The list is not complete, but new sites
are continually being added.
There are also numerous sources for research
available on the RootsWeb Surname Resource Page available on
the site navigation bar.

If you have a genealogy resource that you
would like to share with fellow list members, submit the URL
or material to the list administrator and it may be added to
the mail list resource page.

- How should I handle copyrighted
material when posting to the mail list?
Please respect copyright laws. If you wish to
quote documents or publications that are copyrighted, quote
just a few words or lines as necessary giving credit to the
author of the document or publication.

What type of material may be posted to the mail list?
Material posted to the list should be limited
to only material directly
related to the subject of the list. Advertisements, Chain
Letters, virus warnings, or personal messages should not be
posted to the list. If you have a question or concern about
something you would like to post to the mail list, contact
the list administrator.
- What message formats are
acceptable when posting to the mail list?
HTML and RTF message formats are not
acceptable formats for posting to the mail list. They can
cause problems for the mail server and many Email programs.
Some mail programs come with these formats turned on, please
turn them off before posting to the mail list.

How do I send attachments to the mail list?
Please do not send attachments of any kind to
the mail list, including V-Cards. The RootsWeb Mail List server
is configured not to pass attachments. If you have a document or
other file of interest to the mail list, notify the mail list
and; send it to individual addresses of those list members
that request it, post it to your website, or send it to the list
administrator to be posted on this web site.
Misc:
- What do I do if I suspect I have
received a virus from a mail list message?
The RootsWeb mail list servers, which support
this Surname Mail List, have many safeguards in place to
prevent the passing of viruses to the mail lists. However, it
is good practice to have an anti-virus program on your
computer, up-to-date and running. If you believe you have
received a virus from the mail list, Do not
post to the list, contact the list
