The name was spelled TROTTIER in the 1681 census, but this was clearly Francois TROTTAIN. There was considerable confusion in these records between the TROTTIER and TROTTAIN surnames. I don't know if they were related.

Genevieve's surname as recorded in the Baton Rouge Records (BR Vol. 1, Pointe Coupee, ROUILLARD p. 217) is ST. LURAINT. Through extensive study of the Canadian records, I have come to believe that this must be Genevieve TROTTAIN. The consistent dit name for the TROTTAIN family was ST. SURIN.
There are no other ROUILLARD couples with the names Jacques and Genevieve. In particular, there are no other ROUILLARD dit ST. CYR couples with these names. Considering the way the name of Marie Therese ASSAYER was recorded at the marriage, it is a relatively easy jump from TROTTAIN ST. SURIN to ST. LURAINT. See the notes about Joseph ROUILLARD ST. Notes for NOEL FRANCOIS DUPONT:
I believe this must be the same as Francois I DUPONT
who came to Louisiana by 1766, the husband of Marie-Magdelaine
MICHEL, and the father of Marie-Barbe DUPONT. But I have no document support for this. We do know that Francois Noel DUPONT in
Louisiana was born about 1737 in Quebec.
His name is given only rarely as Noel, but it is enough to provide
support for the contention. In addition,
his association with the TROTTAIN family would surely have brought him into
contact with the ROUILLARD family. Joseph
ROUILLARD dit ST. CYR ended up in Louisiana also.
