 Believed to be Joel Longley (son of Wm.) & wife Mary. He was described on War of 1812 Pension application as Light complexion, light hair, blue eyed, about 5 ft. four or 5 inches high.

Generation One

1. Joel1 Longley was born on 1 Sep 1791 at Rockbridge, Rockbridge Co., VA; "2nd son," date in his sworn statement 22 Nov 1845, Polk Co., TN, in mother's pension file.1

He married Nancy Bodine, daughter of Francis Bodine and Winifred ___ (Young?) Bodine, on 26 Dec 1815 at Sentreville, Fairfax Co., VA; 1st wife (her name, date, and place of marriage in his War of 1812 Pension application). Senterville (Centerville) is now in Fairfax Co.

He married Mary "Polly" Johnston in Dec 1835; 2nd wife, date of marriage stated in War of 1812 pension application by Joel.

He married Jane P. Lovelady on 13 Dec 1871 at Catoosa Co., GA; 3rd wife's name from DAR applications, date from LDS IGI credited to Joseph Longley (AFN: 838Z-3S). He died on 23 Feb 1877 at Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA, at age 85.

He began military service in 1813 Pvt. in Capt. J. B. Long's Co., 39th U.S. Infantry; was in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend 27 Mar 1813 (so was his brother Joseph).2 He ended military service on 17 Nov 1814 at Fort Montgomery, MS Terr; honorably discharged, according to statement in Joseph Longley bounty warrant application.

He and Nancy Bodine were Baptist chuch members included 1818, as Joel Langley and Nancy Langley. He appeared on the census of 1840 at Polk Co., TN; with 1 male un 5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 50-60, 2 females un 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 30-40; Joel was in agriculture.

He applied for his niece Martha Jane Longley for bounty land on service of her father Joseph in the War of 1812. He enlisted 18 Nov 1813, in the 39th U.S. Infantry at Gallatin, Tennessee, under Capt. A. H. Douglass, as attested in the application Joel filed June 1851 for his niece's bounty land warrant as Joseph's only minor heir. This was also attested to by her uncle John C. Longley, who received a land warrant for 160 acres. Joel gave Martha's date of birth as 22 Feb 1830, her mother Priscilla's date of death as 1851, and Joseph's date of death as 25 Nov 1829. Elsewhere in the application file John C. gave the date of 25 Nov 1839.

STATE OF TENNESSEE, COUNTY OF McMINN Here comes Joel Longley to make application as guardian of Martha Jane Longley, minor heir of Joseph Longley . . . on 5 May 1851 at McMinn Co., TN. He and Jane P. Lovelady lived between 1871 and 1877 at Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA; during the six years of their marriage, except for 10 mos. in Jackson Co., AL. He applied for War of 1812 pension on 25 Apr 1871 at Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA.3

Nearby were two of his sisters and families: Charles Pearson and wife Elizabeth (Longley) both age 27, b. TN; James G. Pursley and wife Hannah (Longley); and Lovice Pearson age 52 b. NC living with William Stampes 33 and wife Rebecca E. 30 b. TN; William Pearson 30 and Matthew Pearson 28.4 He homesteaded there in 1882 at Jackson Co., AL, and lived on Sand Mountain:

2. Hannah 2 Longley (Joel1) was born circa 1823 at Sevier Co., TN; probable place. She married James Guyon Pursley circa 1850. She was buried circa 1864 at Salem Baptist Ceme., Catoosa Springs, Catoosa Co., GA. She died in 1864 at near Catoosa Springs, Catoosa Co., GA; near border of Bradley Co., TN, and was buried in Salem Baptist Ceme. near Ringgold, Catoosa Co. Her father Joel is buried there and neither has a tombstone. She and James Guyon Pursley appeared on the census of 20 Jul 1860 at Jackson Co., AL; James G. Pursley 34, b. GA, Hannah Pursley 34, TN. Nearby were Charles Pearson and Elizabeth (Longley) Pearson, her sister, both age 27, b. TN.6

She died on 19 Sep 1889 at Hamilton Co., TX, at age 56; buried Millerville, near Hico, Hamilton Co. She and Charles Mastin Pearson moved from TN to MO with a wagon train, but later returned to TN and raised their family in 1857 at Barry Co., MO. She and Charles Mastin Pearson appeared on the census of 20 Jul 1860 at Jackson Co., AL; both age 27, b. TN. Nearby were James G. Pursley and wife Hannah (Longley); J. Y. Longley and wife Catherine who had Mary Pearson age 52 b. NC living with them; and Lovice Pearson age 52 b. NC living with William Stampes 33 and wife Rebecca E. 30 b. TN; William Pearson 30 and Matthew Pearson 28.7 She immigrated in 1875 to Hamilton Co., TX.

Tipton, Methodist minister, a lay preacher for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, served a church in Lawn, TX for many years. He and Bell are both buried there. He appeared on the census of 1880 at Erath Co., TX; Doctor S. Pearson 26, farming, TN,TN, TN; wife Martha B. 21, TX, NC, GA; daughters Ida B. 4, and Lila E. 1, both TX, TN, TX ~ listed between F. M. Standley and Henry Miller, and near W. A. Geesika.

He married Mrs. Carrie Rouse on 16 Nov 1897 at Erath Co., TX; by James S. Hukel, M.G.; his 2nd wife, her 3rd husband (her 1st was a Jordan). Carrie had never been to school, could not read, write, or tell time, but was a good stepmother to Frank's four daughters. He appeared on the census of 1910 at Erath Co., TX; Frank R. Pearson 52, married twice, 12 years, GA, TN, AL, wife Carrie 47, married three times, 2 children , 2 living; GA, GA, NC; daughters Matilda 17 and Kate 14, both TX, GA, TN.

He lived in 1915 at Girard, TX; from Duffau, TX.

She married William Wesley Jones on 4 Oct 1881 at Lanham, Hamilton Co., TX; in her parents' home; had 8-9 children. She died on 17 Dec 1936 at Hamilton Co., TX, at age 76; probable place; buried in Lanham Ceme., Hamilton Co., beside Lanham United Methodist Church. She and William Wesley Jones came by train with Wes Jones' parents and Elizabeth's parents, are parents of 8 boys after 1875 at Hamilton Co., TX.

16. George Galley3 Longley (Andrew2, Joel1) was born on 16 Oct 1894 at Keith, Catoosa Co., GA. He married Sarah Pearl Byous on 17 Feb 1929 at Shepherd, TN; children's birthdates from Linda Dickey 13 Mar 2000. He died on 29 May 1970 at age 75. He began military service in 1912 at age 17 to serve in World War II. On returning home, he found that his inheritance of 300 acres from his father had been taken for taxes.

22. Esther4 Longley (Joel3, Andrew2, Joel1) married Charles D. Rogers. She was born on 13 Jun 1896 at Catoosa Co., GA. She died on 30 Sep 1979 at age 83. She was buried at Hamilton Memorial Garden, Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN; her obituary stated that she had one son and four daughters and belonged to First Nazarene Church of Chattanooga at time of death. Data on her children and grandchildren was supplied by Linda Longley Dickey.

23. Ruth4 Longley (Joel3, Andrew2, Joel1) was born on 4 May 1898 at Catoosa Co., GA. She married Jesse Lee Birchett Sr. circa 1916? She died in Dec 1970 at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN, at age 72.16 She lived in 1959 at Chattanooga, TN; according to obituary of her brother Joel.

24. Joel Pierce4 Longley (Joel3, Andrew2, Joel1) was born on 1 Feb 1903 at Catoosa Co., GA; probable place. He married Georgia Bell White, daughter of James Walter White and Sarah Mariah "Sally" Bell, circa 1937. He died on 10 Jul 1959 at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN, at age 56; buried Greenwood Ceme. at Missionary Ridge, Chattanooga, TN. He had thick dark hair, gray eyes, about 5' 10" tall and slender, according to daughter Linda Longley Dickey. He and Ella Hembree lived in 1904 at Chattanooga, Hamilton Co., TN; after death of her husband, his father Joel. He was went to work at age 14, was a finish carpenter who worked for his father-in-law James W. White before he married Mr. White's daughter; the two families were neighbors after 1917.
