He married Sarah Oldham, daughter of James Oldham and Leah Stevens, on 28 Aug 1810 at Sevier Co., TN; in her father's home. He died on 19 Feb 1851 at near Ocoee River, Benton, Polk Co., TN, at age 62.
He appeared on the census of 17 Sep 1850 at Polk Co., TN; age 62 VA, wife 59 TN, Jonathan 25 TN, Arnold 20 VA, Elizabeth 15 TN, Leann 13 TN. His estate was subject of a lawsuit: Elijah Rogers Admr. &c Vs Jonathan LONGLEY, Et al: Be it remembered that this cause came on to be heard and finally determined before the worshipful County Court Sitting and holding its November term for the year 1882, it being the 6th day of November. At Benton Polk County, M. C. Boyd Chairman of Said County Court presiding upon the original Bill. He died on 3 Apr 1863 at Ocoee, Polk Co., TN, at age 43; buried at Cookson Creek Baptist Ceme., on a hill 4 mi. from Ocoee, tombstone inscription: "James Longley, b. Sept. 20, 1819, d. April 3, 1863, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
He appeared on the census of 1850 at Polk Co., TN; was age 30 born TN, wife Mary age 24 TN, 2 sons.

He married Eliza Frances Landers on 14 Jan 1849 at Monroe Co., TN; 2nd wife, probable place; NOTE that marriage date and birthdates of children she is credited with being the mother of do not add up. He died on 27 Dec 1864 at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, IN; Confederate prisoner of war, of dysentery. There is a new monument at Crown Hill Cemetery here in Indianapolis to the Confederate souls. He was also known as Ruben Langley. He appeared on the census of 1860 at McMinn Co., TN; listed on this and all subsequent records as Langley; his wife was erroneously enumerated as Rebecca.
