Old Harrison Chapel Cemetery is located off Old Highway 67 which is just around the corner from the historical marker 2 miles east of Redwater. Follow Old 67 about 1/2 mile to a little dirt lane, and turn south. The road stops at a house and barn. Continue on the grass a few yards. Turn left at the little trail and follow it into the cemetery.

His mother, Elizabeth Rebecca Rives Harrison thought that marrying Mary Ann Sprat would settle him down; however, he did not change and got into "trouble." This made it necessary for him to leave Alabama and find a new location. He came to thr area known as 'Terrapin Neck' in North Caddo Parish, LA (Vivian, LA today). This location was some five or more miles from Monterey, TX, a rough border town with a steamboat landing. Reuben II wrote his family in AL about the cheap, virgin land that could be bought in north LA. Back then, farmers did not know about rotating crops in order to keep land productive. This kept farmers on the move seeking new land, so his brothers Dick, Dr. John, and their brother-in-law James Harrell made the move. He married Mary Ann SPRATT at AL (1st husb). After his death, his widow, Mary Ann married Andrew J. Hitchcock.

Reuben died before 1864 at Monterey, TX, or 18 Apr 1878, if he was the Reuben R. Harrison, Jr., whose death was recorded in the Family Bible. Reuben Harrison II was killed in Monterey TX by a blacksmith named Lester. Alice Harrell's version of the triple murder was that Reuben and his overseer named Collins went to Monterey. There they got in an argument with the blacksmith over a rooster fight. Either Reuben or Collins shot and fatally wounded Lester. Before he died, he killed both men. He threw his tongs hitting Reuben in the head and killed Collins with his sledge hammer. Before the blacksmith died, he asked if the other two were dead. As they were, he said he was willing to go also. Other versions of this story were told. Reuben was buried near his home with his overseer beside him. This started the Harrison/Harrell cemetery. Reuben's mother was buried beside him, at her request. Reuben II and Mary Ann Sprat had two children:
