He married Ann Stowell, daughter of Jeremiah Stowell and Rebecca Philbrook, in 1882 at Essex England; and their marriage was recorded at Braintree Registration district in the September quarter 1882.⁸ Joseph Havis was listed under Farmers in Kelly's Directory of Essex 1890, 1894 and 1895 and apparently after his death and until his wife died as Joseph James Havis of Crouchman's Farm Kelly's Directory of 1906, 1908 and 1910
between 1890 and 1910 at Ulting, Essex England.^9,10 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Crouchmans Farm, Ulting, Essex England, as Head, married, age 40, birthplace Woodham Walter, Essex, and he was an employer and a Farmer and Dealer.^1,11,12 He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Crouchmans Farm, Ulting, Essex England, as Head, married, age 50, birthplace Woodham Walter, Essex, and he was an employer and a Farmer.¹³ He died in 1904 at Essex England; and his death was recorded at Maldon Registration district in the March quarter 1904.¹⁴

     Eleanor Beatrice Spooner was born in 1884 at Hordon on the Hill, Essex England; and her birth was recorded at Orsett Registration district in the September quarter 1884.^2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas Spooner and Eliza Philbrick.¹ Eleanor Beatrice Spooner appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Heath Farm, Orsett, Essex England, as Beatrice Spooner, Daughter, age 8, birthplace Horndon on Hill, Essex, and she was a Scholar.⁴ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Newbarn Farm, Sutton at Hone, Essex England, as Sister of Thomas W Spooner, age 16, birthplace Horndon, Essex.⁵
