     David John Maurice was born in 1899 at New South Wales Australia; and his birth was recorded at Maclean District in 1899.¹ He was the son of Stuart Kerr Maurice and Mary Ellen Roche.¹ David John Maurice was the author of What the Buddha REALLY Taught (First Published: 1980):

'...The author, David Maurice, born 24 September 1899, Maclean, New South Wales, went to Burma to study Buddhism in 1926. After Burma's independence he was appointed by the Government of the Union of Burma as head of a small translation group, translating the Pali Canon into English, and as editor of the quarterly English language publication---The Light of the Dhamma".

These translations, when completed, were passed by an editorial board, of which he was a member, and accepted by the Sixth Great Buddhist Synod held by the five predominantly Buddhist countries, with observers from all countries which had significant Buddhist groups. For this work the Government of the Union of Burma conferred on him the coveted Title and Decoration "Wunnakyawhtin".

David Maurice is best known for his work "The Lion's Roar", and anthology of Buddhist Scriptures, the Pali Canon, published both in the U.K. and U.S.A.
He was Vice-President and Director for Asian Affairs of the Universal Buddhist Fellowship, incorporated in the U.S.A. some thirty years ago.
The author died happily in Cairns, Queensland in 1981. His last book, "What the Buddha Really Taught", is not intended to make converts, but to dispel misconceptions, some of them quite fantastic, about the Buddha's teachings. This is an authentic presentation of the Buddha's actual teachings, written in simple, interesting, readable style, and its authenticity is guaranteed by its 124 references to chapter and verse of the Pali Canon. These are at the end of the book and do not interfere with the reading of the book.

He married Annie Louisa Maurice, daughter of Nathan Maurice and Ann Jones Levason, on 23 December 1899; and their marriage was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the December quarter 1899.⁹ William Mordy appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 182 Waterloo Road, Burslem, Staffordshire England, as Head, married, age 33, birthplace Edge, Bolton, Shropshire, and he worked on his own account as a Mining engineer and surveyor. He was listed in Kelly's Directory of Staffordshire dated 1912 as: 'Mordy, William, metal broker, Waterloo Road, Cobridge, Burslem, Staffordshire in 1912.¹¹ He died on 27 October 1935 and his death was recorded at Stoke on Trent Registration district in the December quarter 1935 at age 67.^12,1,13

     Charles Mordy was born on 26 December 1906; and his birth was recorded at Wolstanton Registration district, Staffordshire, in the March quarter 1907.¹ He was the son of William Mordy and Annie Louisa Maurice.² Charles Mordy died on 10 April 1972 at age 65; and his death was recorded at Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, in the June quarter 1972.^3,2 A notice was published in The London Gazette Issue 45828 on 16 November concerning his estate.
