According to St Catharine's College records he gained his B.A. in Agriculture probably on 19 December 1923 (the year is difficult to read in the records) and his M.A. on 12 February 1927.
Patrick Hawke-Smith writes, he 'went straight from school into the Royal Flying Corps and must have come to Cambridge in 1919. Interestingly, he rejoined the RAF in the second world war when in his forties.7,2,8'
He was a 'Lieutenant, Royal Flying Corps' between 1917 and 1919.2 He was recorded in an entry in The London Gazette Issue 32988 published on the 4 November 1924 concerning property ownership is as follows:

He died on 29 July 1980 at The Mill House, Stockbridge, Hampshire England, at age 81; and his death was recorded in the December quarter 1980 at Romsey Registration district. It was announced in The Times of 31 July 1980 as 'peacefully' and he is described as 'dearly loved husband of the late Helen Finch Halford, and devoted father and grandfather of Helen, John and Beverley and their children. Both the island, a wildlife and wader refuge of great importance, and the farm had been owned in the first half of the 20th century by Mr Lane’s uncle, the diplomat Sir Norman Angell, a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.5,9,10' The following notice was published in The Times On-Line': 'Eric Angell Lane, of Holbeach, Lincolnshire, left estate valued at £1,449,909 net.11'

Moses Solomon Assur Keyser1

Moses Solomon Assur Keyser was also known as Solomon Keyser.2 He was born circa 1809.1 He married Esther Levy, daughter of Abraham Levy and (Elizabeth) Betsy Lazarus, in 1838 at London England; and their marriage was registered in the June quarter 1838 at City of London Registration district.3,4,5 Moses Solomon Assur Keyser appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Blackheath Hill, Lewisham, Lee, Kent England, as age 30, not born in the county, and he was a Merchant.6 He The following is an extract from 'Coats of Many Colours, History of the Joseph Family'' - West Country Connections:
'37. Moses S. A. Keyser was a great friend of Abraham Joseph (30) and prepared the Hebrew inscription for his tombstone. The writer has a letter in his possession to the latter's son from him. Of course this family is connected with Goldsmids, Ricardos and the Barent Cohens among others'
circa 1845.7 He was an original member of the Board of Guardians and attended the constituting meeting on 16 March 1859 at the Great Synagogue, London, from the Hambro' Synagogue. He was to decline election as Vice-President.8 He died in 1872; and his death was recorded at Kensington Registration district in the December quarter 1872, at age 63.9

According to the 'Historical Register of the University of Cambridge' (published periodically by Cambridge University Press), in the edition for 1921-30, he gained Part I of the Oriental Language Tripos (taking papers in Hebrew and Aramaic) in 1929 and got a First. His College record shows he got an aegrotat for Part II Oriental Languages, Hebrew and Aramaic in 1931.
His entry in The Clifton College Register 1862 to 1947 (J.W.Arrowsmith Ltd, Bristol, 1947) reads:
'Jan 1922 9033 Montagu-Yates, Rev. George Alfred (formerly YATES, G.A.); b.2.11.08; PH [Polack House]; IV[gamma]-VI; P[raeposter]; L[eft] 1927; Rogerson Schol., St. John's, Camb; Stewart of Rannoch Hebrew Schol; 1st Cl. Oriental Lang. Journ.', and contributor to The Times and other leading journs; Editor, 'In Spirit and in Truth, Aspects of Judaism and Christianity' (1934); Helford Priory, Cornwall.1,4,5,6'
He was the author of of 'In Spirit and in Truth' published in 1934; it was 'a book edited by him for the Society of Jews and Christians' and was the 'First Jewish Christian symposium ever published in England.1,7,8'
He was described in 'The Samuel Family of Liverpool and London' as being involved in 'Private tutoring, oriental studies. Communal, social and religious work. [He was a] Lay Reader, Reform synagogues.1'
He died on 20 June 1949 at "Kemps", Winsford, Somerset England, at age 40; and his death was registered in the September quarter 1949 at Exmoor Registration district.9,1,10 He was the subject of an obituary and the biographical archive at St John's College, Cambridge, contains the following newspaper cutting from 'The Times' of 24 June 1949:
'YATES.—On June 20, 1949, in his sleep, GEORGE ALFRED YATES, dearly loved son of Julia Yates and the late Ellis K. Yates. No flowers, please.11,12'
He was buried on 27 June 1949 at Hoop Lane Cemetery, Golders Green, London England; and Laurence Harris of JGSGB says:
'There are five Hebrew letters at the bottom of the inscription (although you can only easily see four). It is a standard Hebrew abbreviation which appears on many Jewish Headstones which translates to “May his soul be bound up in the bonds of (everlasting) life”. A photograph of the gravestone is on the internet.13,1,10

He was executor for his Mother and the 1884 National Probate Calendar reads: 'Halford Kate. 17 January. The Will of Kate Halford (Wife of Benjamin Halford Esquire) late of 3 Cleveland-gardens Hyde Park in the county of Middlesex who died 20 March 1883 at 3 Cleveland-gardens was proved at the Principal Registry by Frederick Benjamin Halford of 26 Cleveland-gardens and Edward Eleazer Halford of 18 Leinster Square in the said County Esquires the Sons and Ferdinand Mendl of 39 Holland-park Kensington in the said County Esquire the Executors. Probate being granted under certain Limitations. Personal estate £3,900. Resworn April 1885 £10.14' He was executor of his father and The 1888 National Probate Calendar records:
'Halford Benjamin Esq. Personal Estate £12663 19s. 19 April. The Will with a Codicil of Benjamin Halford formerly of 3 Cleveland-gardens Hyde Park in the County of Middlesex but late of 78 Broadhurst-gardens Hampstead in the County of Middlesex Esquire who died 10 March 1888 at Birtley-crescent-road Bournemouth in the County of Southampton was Proved at the Principal Registry by Frederick Benjamin Halford of 78 Broadhurst-gardens Gentleman the Son one of the Executors' on 19 April 1888.15 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 78 Broadhurst Gardens, Hampstead, London England, as Head, age 55, birthplace Manchester, and he was an Insurance Broker. He was living with his Wife Maria, his Son Bernhard, and Daughters Florence, Hilda, Jeannette and Kate.16
He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 2 Woodchurch Road, Hampstead, London England, as Head, age 65, birthplace Manchester, Lancashire, and he was an Employer and an Insurance Broker. He was living with his Wife Maria, Son Bethel and Daughters Hilda, Jeanette and Kate. Also in the household were three Domestic Servants: Cook, housemaid and parlourmaid.17
He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Hampstead, London England, as Head, married 1858, age 75, birthplace Lancashire.18 He died on 14 October 1914 at London England at age 78; and his death was recorded at Hampstead Registration district in the December quarter 1914.19,3,12

Her married name was Greening.1 Elizabeth Ellen Barfoot was born circa 1875 at Oxford, Oxfordshire England.2 She married Percival Edward Greening, son of Joseph John Greening and Olive Florence Ottaway, in 1897; and their marriage was recorded at Headington record office in the September quarter 1897.1 Elizabeth Ellen Barfoot appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Cowley, Oxfordshire England, as Wife, age 2?, birthplace Oxford, Oxfordshire.2
