Notes: This is the whole family. The four sons in the back row all went
by their middle names. Delilah is the mother of Elizabeth and grandmother of
the children. Daniel and Elizabeth were married Nov. 1, 1876. She was known
as Pinky, his nickname for her. The family story is that the first time he
saw her she was wearing a pink dress and he thought her very beautiful in it
and so called her Pinky. It is somewhat of a mystery why she looked so
exhausted.
Perhaps she suffered from asthma or pernicious anemia as did some of her
children. Daniel and Elizabeth were both born in Newton Co. and lived there
all their lives farming. Daniel reportedly had a great sense of humor. A
railroad line ran by the field he worked often and he was friendly with the
train engineers who went by an waved. One day, he heard the train coming
and, as a joke, stripped off all this clothes and continued to walk behind
his mule and plow naked.
