John Ayers [Parents] was born 1, 2 on 27 Mar 1592 in Lydlinch, Dorset, England or Bronham Parish,Wiltshire,England . He was christened 3 in 1596 in Bronham Parish,Wiltshire,England . He died 4, 5 on 31 Mar 1657 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts . He married 6 Maria Kipping in May 1623 in Saint George Tombland, Norwich, Norfolk, England. The parent relationship has been challenged.

John Ayer, his wife, Hannah, and eight children came to America in 1637. He received land in Salisbury, MA, in the "first division", in 1640 and in 1643, made Freeman of Salisbury in 1645, sold house and land and moved to Ispwich in 1646. About 1647 he again sold house and land and commonage to John Stevens and removed to Haverhill where he was proprietor and purchaser. In 1648/49 he became Town Officer. John's will, March 12, 1657, was probated at Hampton, October 6, 1657, in which he bequeathed to his wife Hannah, and named his children: sons John, Robert, Thomas, Obediah, Peter and Nathaniel; daughters Hannah, Rebecca, and Mary (note: even though Hannah seems to have been a very late addition to this family--possibly an illegitamate grandchild?) Note: There are found two different English ancestry theories of this family. One, in the New England Heritage, that they came from Ayer/Eyer family of Bronham Parish, Wiltshire; the second, in the Descendants of Steven Lincoln, that he came from the Eyer family of Poole. According to "The Roads Taken" Mary Ayer, a widow by 1690, was accused of being a witch, nd was tried for the crime of witchcraft at the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. She was tried and condemned on September 9, 1690, and executed by hanging on September 22, 1692: at which time she was freed of the taunts and accusations of a few hysterical and fanatical individuals - who just plain did not like her or understand her. Her accusers were those of marginal lifestyle and intelligence who had long considered her 'strange'.
