Asa Steals the Show 6-23-07

Asa was the ring bear for his aunt's wedding to Uncle Graham this past weekend. We had him dressed in a very cute linen outfit with a big bib collar. We did give him a pillow to hold, but no actual rings, as that seemed potentially dangerous. He was pulled down the aisle in a wagon by the flower girls. It was precious. No video of that as I couldn't exactly do it from my vantage point as matron of honor. There will be many pictures, however, as soon as the proofs come back. I've seen previews and they are just incredible -- of Asa and of the bride and groom.

Asa got the first dance with his aunt to Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Here's a clip:

The whole wedding was just wonderful. The ceremony was beautiful (and the baby was well-behaved). The reception was lots of fun; the cake was good; people enjoyed the dancing, and the weather could not have been more perfect. Now we are all exhausted, but are off to do some vacationing as a family (yay!) and are hoping for some good naps and pool time.

  • Meg,

Thanks so much for the pictures and especially the clip of Katie dancing with Asa at Katie and Graham's wedding. Ironically, I have thought of this dance many times since it first took place.

For me this was one of the most unforgettable moments of the wedding. It showed not only how much Katie loves her nephew (who wouldn't, REALLY?) but also what a wonderful mother Katie will be someday. As I watched her dance and laugh with Asa, I could remember doing the same many times with MY nephew Russell (who lives now in Albuquerque)and then of course later, even more, with Graham. I also used to put Graham in the 'baby' seat of a grocery cart, look for an empty aisle, and RACE as fast as we could down the grocery aisle, to his laughter and mine - no wonder he'll do ANYTHING now.

As I was watching Katie and Asa, I could visualize a time someday in the future when Katie will dance with little 'Katie/Graham's(?), and I know they will receive all the love it is possble for a mother to give. How proud I am of Katie and the Baker family who raised her, and how lucky Graham is and we are.

Thank you all for --- and there is no favoritism at all in this opinion --- the most beautiful and happiest wedding I've ever seen, and for welcoming me as you did.

I have great affection already for each one of you, (EVEN Stewart, who said my son has a 'Tallness Disability' - haha, Stewart, Graham will get you back!).

I hope that the distance between Pennsylvania (or Wherever), Virginia, Vermont too, and Alabama will become measured not in miles but in friendship (much closer that way).

Thank you for sending me this clip that I will watch over and over again, and for including me on Asa's website. (What can we expect from HIM in the future? Wow.)

  • Meg--

I'm so glad I went looking for this! I counted on you, and you came through. E.T. and I were so distraught at missing the festivities; now I can at least imagine what I missed. I'll send E.T. the link.

    Love,

    Jincy
