Asa Is Mobile!
Okay, so it isn't the typical crawl. He's doing a combination of rolling, army crawling, and sitting up and scooting, but he's mostly able to get to where he wants to be. Usually this is getting to:
a) a piece of lint on the carpet which will immediately be eaten (usually the lint derives from the dog shaking the cotton out of his toys -- see b)
b) a dog toy (also to be eaten)
c) something to pull up on, such as the coffee table -- but usually this option is only exercised if there is something dangerous about the object to be pulled up on, such as a full coffee cup placed on the table or the general precariousness of the object so that it will topple over when he pulls up
Here's a quiz. How many bruises did you see on Asa's head in the video? I think he has at least three. Did I mention that he is learning to pull up? This is where we install a padded helmet (pudding cap) for him. Or maybe just encase him in bubble wrap.
Things are going better than my last post. He's sleeping a little more, although still waking once a night at least and still getting up at 6am. He still has a mark on his cheek from the tape, but it is getting new skin, and I'm still hopeful that it won't scar.
We've started wheat, which is the best thing for me! He can now eat all by himself: Cheerios, crackers, toast pieces, cheese cubes (okay, so not wheat, but independent feeding), as well as the standard fruit and veggie pieces he had before (green beans, zucchini, squash, sweet potato, banana, etc.). It makes traveling with food so much easier. His pincer grasp is great now, since he is getting so much practice. And he REALLY likes Cheerios and other things he can feed himself. I like that I can make myself something to eat or do something else while he eats, so long as I watch him.
Other brilliance: yesterday we went to the doctor and I had attached his cup to a chain of links so that he couldn't drop it from the stroller and lose it. He dropped it and was able to retrieve it by pulling up on the chain!
Let's see. He's also talking up a storm. Hard to say if there are actual words involved. There are a lot of "ba" and "da", so if he chooses "book", "ball", or "dog" as his first word, I'm not sure I'll be able to tell.
He's still a very social baby. He's had lots of practice recently, as we've been all out and about this week. He's pretty much willing to go to anyone and talk with them. He wants to put his hands in their mouth though, and he wants to know where I am most of the time.
And finally, it is spring, so we can really play outside! Asa is learning to roll his ball back and forth with me on the deck. He also thinks it is fun to try and stand up out there. We need to get some sunblock for the kid.
