Welcome to the first edition of my quarterly newsletter. Here you will find additions and corrections to my family research. I plan to focus on a different ancestor in each newsletter.This first edition features my grandmother Florence Banks.

Florence Harriet Banks

Florence Harriet Banks was born in Seaford, Sussex, England 27 Jul 1876 1,2 to George Banks and Mary Elizabeth Knowles. She married Robert G. Willis 13 Aug 19023also in Seaford.

Robert and Florence had 5 children: Muriel, William, Georgina, Robert and Maurice. Florence's family were bakers in Seaford for many years. After her marriage she became well-known in the area for her work on behalf of the Seaford British Legion women's section.4 She became the chair of the legion in 1944 and remained in that office until ill health forced her to resign in 1947. Florence died 7 May 19494 and is buried in Seaford Cemetery alongside Robert and their daughter Georgina who died as a young child.
