The funeral of Alvin Elliot Lyman was held at the Methodist Episcopal church in the city on friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Boyd, the pastor officiating. The business houses of the city closed their doors during the sevices in order that all might attend and pay their last respects to Mr. Lyman who for a number of years was ingaged in business here. The services were largely attended an the foral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Following the services, interment was made in Oakland cemetery
Alvin Elliot Lyman was born at Dunlap, Iowa March 6, 1881, and passed away at Superior, NE., on March 11 1919. He spent his early years at Dunlap. In 1898 he came to Denison, working ia a restaurant for his brother, Chester. On October 22, 1902 he was united in marriage to Grace E. Raine of this city. To this union two children were born, Ralph aged 15 and Leslie, 13, who with the mother are left to mourn his death. In May 1917, Mr. Lyman went to Superior, Ne., to operate the restaurant for his brother.Floyd who was one of the first to enlist in the army.
There are left to mourn his death beside his wife and children, his mother and three brothers, Burton of Carroll, Iowa, Floyd of Superior, Ne. and Chester of Hutchinson, KS. His father died when he was eight years of age.
Mr. Lyman took sick last October wih a nervous breakdown and later contracted the influenza from which he never recovered. He passed away very peacefully on Tuesday evening, March 11, 1919 at the age of 33yrs and 5 days.
For serval years, Mr. Lyman was chief of the Denison Consolidated Fire department and just prior to his leaving Denison, served on the city council. By his genial personality and generous ways he had won a large circle of friends who are grieved at his early death.
In the home he was a kind husband and father and his loss will be most keenly felt. the large circli of his friens extend to the bereaced ones thenderst sympahty in this their hour of deep sorrow.
