Sens is a city in Yonne, Burgundy, France. The city is named after the Sennones, a Celtic tribe. The Roman settlement wasoriginally called Agedincum, later oppidun Senonas or Senones. By 375 it was an administrative centre and the chief town of Gallia Lugdunensis. During the middle ages its archbishops were primates in Germany and France who maintained official residence in Paris.
