Carrying the Kershaws from the Port of Liverpool
to the Ports of Boston and New York

SS LACONIA - LEFT LIVERPOOL ON AUG. 6, 1912 AND DOCKED
AT THE PORT OF BOSTON ON AUG. 14, 1912.
On board was George W. Kershaw, Sr., who was meeting his son,
Edwin Kershaw, who had arrived around 1910 to America.

The SS Laconia was built in 1912, for the Cunard Line, but
was torpedoed carrying troops during World War I and
sank in 1917.


SS FRANCONIA - LEFT LIVERPOOL ON OCT. 15, 1912
AND ARRIVED AT THE PORT OF BOSTON ON OCT. 23, 1912.
On board was Jemima Smith Kershaw (wife of G.W. Kershaw).
She was traveling with her son, John Kershaw, age 18 years and
a relative (listed as daughter) Clara, age 5 years old.

The SS Franconia was built in 1911 for the Cunard Line.
It was torpedoed and sunk in 1916 during World War I.


SS ALAUNIA - LEFT ON ITS MAIDEN VOYAGE
ON NOV. 27, 1913 FROM LIVERPOOL AND
ARRIVED AT THE PORT OF BOSTON ON
DECEMBER 6, 1913.

On board was Henry G. Kershaw and George G. Prophet.
Their passage was paid for my Henry's father, G.W. Kershaw.

The SS Alaunia was built in June 1913 for the Cunard Line.
It was struck by an underwater mine off the coast
of England in October 1916 during World War I.  Tugboats
tried to bring it to shore but it was not saved.


SS CARMANIA - LEFT LIVERPOOL ON APRIL 14, 1914
AND ARRIVED AT THE PORT OF BOSTON ON APRIL 23, 1914.

On board was Ethel Briggs Kershaw and her three children;
Harry, Ethel and Edward (Edwin).  She would be meeting her
husband, Henry Kershaw.
Also on board was Elizabeth Kershaw Prophet (wife of
George Green Prophet) and their four children;
George, Nellie, Wilfred and Harry.  She would
be meeting her husband, George Prophet.

The SS Carmania was built in 1905 for the Cunard Line.
It served for years carrying passengers across the Atlantic
and even troops during World War I.  It continued after
the war to carry passengers until it was scrapped
by Cunard in 1932.


One of the last of the Kershaw family to come to America was
George William Kershaw, Jr.  He came in April 1922 on the
SS SCYTHIA from Liverpool to Ellis Island in NYC.
He was 41 years old and traveled along.  His wife and
family were still back in England and George return
later to England to stay permanently.
