I know not everyone has the same idea of what "genealogy" means. For some it's biological only, for others it is social history. Some people triple document each fact, while others have few sources. Your own working style is whatever meets your goals, but here's a summary of my working style to aid you in evaluating the data you find on my website:
COMPLETENESS
My first priority is my own ancestors. I try to explore their lives, add interesting information to their basic facts, and sometimes speculate how they might have felt about various events in their lives. I include events involving their family, such as the death of a parent, child, or spouse, when I feel it would have had a large impact on their life. The siblings of ancestors are my second priority, followed by other descendants. Some entries have a lot of information with a variety of sources, others may have very little.
SOURCES
My sources are listed below each individual. I've been doing genealogy since 1988. I started with PAF, which had limited sourcing capabilities, then moved on to Family Tree Maker. I've been using The Master Genealogist for about 10 years. Some sources, especially ones from my early research, may be somewhat lacking in information.
SOURCE INDICES and FAMILY TREES
There is some great information out there and some not so great information. I try to judge each family tree on its own merits. Often I will add a branch of people from a GEDCOM or on-line family tree to "try them out," adding more detailed sources as I go along. Information in source indices can be problematic. In general, I include information that is extracted from source records. Ideally, I'd like to check each actual source, but that is often not practical.
SHARING DATA
In my genealogical quest I have been lucky enough to receive help and encouragement (and information and documents!) from a number of people. This website is part of my effort to help others as well.
PRIVACY
It is not my intent to list information about living people on this website. The only information about living people that should appear on this website is contact information for other researchers who have requested inclusion or the very occasional famous person, such as former President Bill Clinton. Please inform me if I have inadvertently included information about other living people.
