Origins and Migrations of the Gildow/Kildow Family:

The family name has been spelled with many variations in all the records I have found.  The most common spellings being Gildau, Gildow,  Kildau, and Kildow.  Although the name sounds Irish, I believe this family came from Germany as I found baptismal records from a German Lutheran Church for members of this family (Steltz Union (Bethlehem) Evangelical Lutheran Church).  In the records the name was spelled Gildaeu or Kildaeu.   According to Ancestral File, some members of this family moved at some point to Anderson Twp., Clark Co., Illinois.  Two brothers, Peter and John moved at some point to Noble Co., OH, where a number of their descendants remain today.
