In Honor of Our Miltary Men & Women

Thomas Augustus Maxwell was born in Adams County, near Belfast Ohio, February 14, 1844. He grew up on a farm Flat Run in Northern Adams County. He joined the Civil War at the age of 19. He was a member of CO.,E,70th Reg. O.V.I., volunteered at Camp Hmer in Adams County, West Union,Ohio. He was with General Sherman at Siloh, April 6th and 7th, Cornith, Grand Junction, Memphis, at Scottsburg, Alabama. He en-listed for three more years. He took part at Missionary Ridge, Kenesaw Mountains, The Alanta Campaign, in line 22 days of July Then with the 15th Corp under Logan through the historic March to the sea. In the charge of Fort McAllister, on to Columbia, South Careolina, Goldsboro, Noth Carolina and at Grand Round-up of Joe E. Johnston and at Durham Station, North Carolina, Grand Review, Washington D.C. to Little Rock and then home. He was honorably discharged from the service January 14, 1864 at Scottsboro, Alabama. Thomas A. Maxwell married Pheobe Roberds. Their daughter Mary Etta Maxwell married Joseph Albert Siders February 16, 1862 they had 7 children, 1st born Bessie Gladys died at a young age of 2 years old, their twin daughter died at birth and Mary Etta passed away few days after complacation of childbith on May 20, 1910 in Highland County,Ohio. Mary is laid to rest at Coss Cemetery, Highland County, Hillsboro,Ohio near Belfast, with a few of her children George Rebert, Chloe Evelyn and Gladys Bessie. Joseph married September 2, 1914 to Lille Lee Spurgeon and they raised Mary Etta's and their children and 7 of their children together a grand total of 11 children they raised and they were wonderful parents. Thomas and Pheobe are also laid to rest at Coss Cemetery, Highland County, Hillsboro,Ohio near Belfast
