William Sr. Jones's Will


William Jones, of Halifax County in Province of North Carolina, made January 3, 1758:


Being sick and weak, I will to my son William Jones Jr., a tract of land he now has possession of. Also a negro named Swaney. To my son, Henry Jones, I will 300 acres, being the upper part of a tract of land that lies adjoining the plantation I now live on. Also a Negro boy named Bob, a bed and furniture, 2 cows and calves. To my son Simon Jones, I will 500 acres of land with my mill, joining the two tracts I gave my sons, Britten and Henry and being part of the same tracts. Also a negro boy named Dick, a bed and furniture, 2 cows and calves. To my daughter, Livia {Oliva?}, a negro Wench named moll, bed and furniture. To my daughter, Winifred, I will a negro girl named Lucy, a bed with furniture. To my daughter,Sarah, I will a negro girl named Hanah, and bed with furinture. To my daughter Elizabeth, I will a negro girl named Frank and a bed with furniture. To my spouse, Sarah Jones, I will the use of negroes named Ben and Sam and 3 wenches named Sue, Nan and Poll. Also my stock of goods, utensils, etc., all parts and parcels of my estate, during her life, to be divided among the children by executors. I appointed my beloved wife, Sarah Jones my eldest son Wm. Jones Jr., my sole executors.

This information was sent to me by Phyillis Hickey-Kay, William Jones Sr. is her 5th Great Grandfather (son Robert Haley Jones} he is also my 5th Great Grandfather through Margaret Elizabeth "Jones" Hinkle. Robert Haley and Margaret Elizabeth are brother and sister.
