Robert Peter Treadway Hinkle is the son of Susannah Treadway and John Ramsey & stepson to William Hinkle. Robert was born October 22, 1822 in North Carolina, died October 12, 1882 in Knox County,Kentucky, buried at Hinkle Cemetery,Knox County,Kentucky. Robert Peter was three years old when his mother Susannah Treadway meet William Hinkle. Robert Peter never knew his biological father John Ramsey.A copy of the Original Court bond and with transcribe version below. John Ramsey filed Bastary Papers in Buncombe Country {now Raleigh}, North Carolina June 1825. The Original Bastardy Bond below was found in Buncombe County records,Bastardy Bonds and Records, 1824-1829. It reads:

We the subscribers do obligate our selves to pay Robert WILLIAMSON Chairman and presiding Justice said Court or his sussessors in office the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds to be void on condition that John RAMSEY do indemnify the Court aforesaid for maintenance of a base born child by him the said John begotten of the body of Susannah TREDEWAY otherwise to remain in full force and virtue Given under our hands and seals this 22nd day of June 1825."

Normally, other information relative to this case would be brought up in the County Court Minutes, however, Buncombe Couty Courthouse suffered a fire in 1865, which destroyed the court minutes from 1825 through 1835.
In cases like the above, the name and sex of the child is never disclosed. Its last name would be the same as its mother unless later changed.

Source of the Bastardy Bond is based on the book, "North Carolina Bastardy Bonds" by Betty and Edwin Camin. The book just mentioned used its sole source the bastardy bond made up in each county when it was determined that a child born out of wedlock was likely to be dependent in Buncomde County records, Bastardy Bonds and Records, 1824-1829.
