I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 27,
1857. I married Joseph Edward Gardner
January 1, 1873. We moved to Salem the
same year and lived there 44 years. We
raised all of our family there and had the hardships of starting and making a
home. And through it all we enjoyed
ourselves very much. We had our sorrows
as well. In 1880 there was an epidemic
of dip[h]theria which caused so much
sorrow for everybody, some losing their whole families. We laid away our two oldest children, a
girl, Ella, seven years and eight months old, and a boy, Harvey, five years and
eight months, within two months. Of course
the world didn’t look very bright for some time, but the clouds raised after
awhile until my husband died on February 26, 1910 from which I have never quite
recovered. There are so many things
which we could tell, but too numerous to mention. We all have pretty nearly the same things to meet through life.
Seven years after my husband’s death, I moved to
Blackfoot, Idaho, arriving on Christmas Day, 1917. My children residing there, and it has been my home ever
since. So I will close my sketch. |
