Run with the sea!
The South Australian
Maritime Museum is acclaimed as one of the best of its kind in the world.
And it's not hard to see why!
Nestling in the heart of historic
Port Adelaide, South Australia's Maritime
Museum extends into three fascinating and quite distinct sites.
In the Bond Stores, the museum's main gallery, you can go aboard a full-scale
copy of a sailing ketch.
Listen, touch, smell ... As you take the helm, listen to the seagulls
crying and wheeling towards the shore ahead of the approaching storm,
touch the ropes and smell the tar mingling with the salt-sea air ...
In the Bond Stores basement you can actually experience for yourself the
conditions under which early settlers sailed out from Europe. And while
you're in the 'immigrant mood', key your name into one of our computers
and find out on which ship your ancestors came out to South Australia.

See the light!
A short walk from
the Bond Stores takes you to the Lighthouse, built in 1869. Climb the
spiral stairs and let the spectacular view of Port Adelaide, the Adelaide
plains and the Mount Lofty Ranges take your breath away.
|
 |
And
not 300 metres from the Lighthouse you can go aboard the maritime museum's
two floating vessels, the Steam Tug Yelta and the coastal trader Nelcebee.
