In the lower portion of Lexington County, South Carolina, four counties come together: Lexington, Orangeburg, Aiken, and Calhoun. Most of this site deals with families living in Lower Lexington; however, due to changing political boundaries, marriage, buying and selling of land, and unknown reasons, many of the families are found also in Aiken and Orangeburg counties.

I began my foray into genealogy with my father, George Tillman Williams, Jr., moving back in time through his successive ancestors. The turn of the 19th century is as far as I have reached so far. Disappointing, yes, but I still have hope to learn more. The information is there, I just haven't yet accessed it.

Biding my time between trips to the Midlands, I've throughly enjoyed researching "out" of my father's direct ancestral line. As a result, within this site are families that are only slightly related to my father, yet are still of interest to me. Afterall, families lived in Lower Lexington for generations, interwining through love, animosity (because doesn't hate tie us as strongly as love?), marriage, commerce, and simple proximity.

The errors within this site -- and granted there are many -- are my own. Please advise me of them via lessiew@hotmail.com. Each time I revise this site, I find grammatical, punctuation, and even silly mistakes that make me cringe. This is entirely a work in progress. For this reason, I would love to hear from you. I crave your corrections, comments, and stories, especially if you, like me, have a connection to these families. Lessie Williams
