Obituary: Charles R. Stone AVIS - The funeral will be Monday for Charles R. Stone, 76, of 190 Summit Hollow Road, who died Friday, April 24, 1998, in Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport. He was the co-owner of the former Avis Meat Market and worked as a meat cutter for the former A&P Supermarket and Thompsons Meat Market in Jersey Shore. He was a member of the meat cutters union. His first wife, the former Ruth Marshall, died in 1994. His second wife, the former Lura M. Quick, died in 1986. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater, and was awarded a Bronze Star, among other decorations. He was a member of Post 284, American Legion, Avis, and Post 5859, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Jersey Shore. He was a member of Jersey Shore Moose Lodge 214. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, and playing pool. He was a 1939 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, Jersy Shore. Born Sept. 30, 1921, he was a son of Frank and Mary F. Romano Stone. Surviving are four daughters, [Living], [Living], [Living], and [Living]; five sons, [Living] and [Living], [Living], [Living], and [Living]; a brother [Living]; 15 grand children, and three great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the church, 118 Kendall Ave., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Andrew S. Hvozdovic officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter's, 1102 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore.

Obituary, April 30, 1994: Mrs. Ruth L. Phillips, 66, of 1999 Walters Road, died today, Saturday, April 30, 1994, at home. She was the wife of [Living]. She was a member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of Leroy O. Buck Post 7863, Veterans of Foreign Wars, DuBoistown. She was also a member and past president of the Military Order of the Cootie Auxiliary of the Pup Tent No. 10., and of the ladies auxiliary of VFW District 15. She was a past grand president to the Grand Pennsylvania Moca. She retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. Born Dec. 29, 1927, in Jersey Shore, she ws a daughter of Oscar and Minnie Duttin Marshal. Surviving besides her husband are four sons, [Living] and [Living], [Living], and [Living]; three daughters, [Living], [Living], and [Living]; four sisters, [Living], [Living], [Living], and Bertha Mays of Avis, and 12 grandchildren. There will be no services and no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler's 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
