Volunteered April 15 1864 2nd Mtd Infantry of North Carolina, Mustered in Co, D May 1 1864. Sick in hospital January 20 1865 and again March 22 1865. Discharge states he was mustered out August 16 1865 at Knoxville, TN at the age of 49. The grave marker at Greenwood Cemetery states his birth year as 1819, date of death 1879.
Other Civil War records show Stephen Maynor serving from TN and Albert Maynor and Calvin Maner from NC, (Mathias Maynor and William M. Maynor, evidently one and the same). Are these other his Brothers? Also found Robert Mayner served in 2nd Mounted Infantry of NC, Company E, same as Mathias, is this his brother or his father?

Burnice Hensley, 85, of 20 Hensley Road, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center. He was lifelong resident of Buncombe County, a former employee of M. B. Haynes as a lineman. After his retirement from M. B. Haynes he worked with the U.S. Forest Service.
Mr. Hensley was a World War II Army veteran, where he was an aircraft mechanic in the 31st Bombardment Squadron. He served in Southern Philippines, Central Pacific, China, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Eastern Mandates, Bismarck Archipelago, Western Pacific and Luzon Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign, where he received ten Bronze Service Stars and the American Defense Service Metal. He was a son the late Ed and Elizabeth Maynor Hensley. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Dillingham and three brothers, Ab, Howard and Jo Hensley.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Louise Holcombe Hensley. He is also survived by two sons, Rick Hensley of Barnardsville and Keith B. Hensley of the home, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service, 7626 Hwy. 213, Mars Hill. The Rev. David Bridgman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruth Ellen Maynor, 84, of Asheville, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, in a local nursing home. Born May 16, 1921, in Idaho, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Violet Thornton Osborn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Cling Maynor and brother, Vernon L. Osborn. She met her husband while working in the cafeteria at Gallon Field Air Base. She also worked for several years in the cafeterias of Valley Springs Elementary and Estes Elementary, from which she retired. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed craft work at home, including crocheting, embroidering, making Christmas ornaments and ceramics. Mrs. Maynor is survived by two sons, James Ted Maynor and his wife, Shannon, of Asheville and Ronnie Maynor and his wife, Linda, of Fletcher; three sisters, Joy Fisher and Eva Osborn of Boise, Idaho, and Norma Yonida of Emmett, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. Douglas Guy officiating. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harriet E. Banks, 76, died early yesterday morning at the home, Asheville, RFD 1 [Woodfin], following a short illness. Surviving are threesons, G.B., W.S. and A.J. Banks; three daughters, Alta Benfield, Mrs. CharlesL.Edwards, and Mrs. James De(???); one brother, Garfield Wood, two sisters, Miss Samantha Wood, and Mrs. Floyd Smith, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. today with the Rev. William Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. Obituary, The Asheville (NC) Citizen-Times: Sally Banks Edwards, 80, of 19 Oak Park Place, Asheville, died Wednesday in an Asheville hospital. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Bryce G. and Harriett Maynor Banks and the wife of Charles L. Edwards, who died in 1956. She was a volunteer with Asheville Veterans Administration Medical Center, with a 15,000 hour award. She was a charter member of Ladies Auxiliary of World War Veterans 505, American Legion Auxiliary, No. 2, VFW Post No. 891 Auxiliary, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Chapter 179, and Groce United Methodist Church. Surviving are a sister, Alta Benfield of Lenoir; and a brother, Woodfin Banks of Asheville. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Green Hills Cemetery.

WEAVERVILLE - James Edward Maynor, 79, a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Mission St. Joseph's Health System in Asheville. Mr. Maynor was born July 4, 1923. He was the last child born to the late John and Elizabeth Phipps Maynor.
James proudly served as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps of Hot Springs. Mr. Maynor was very proud that all of his sons had served in the U.S. military. He was employed with Beacon Manufacturing for 26 years and Shaw Industries for more than 10 years.
Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Ledford Maynor; five sons, Ralph and wife, Florence, Wade and wife, Linda, Wayne and Troy and Zale and wife, Elaine; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. Tim Lewis and Davy Shelton officiating. Ministering through music will be Eternal Harmony of Weaverville. Burial will be in West Memorial Park with Mr. Maynor's sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will meet at the home of his son, Zale Maynor, 6 Salem Hill Road, Weaverville. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted Cling Maynor and brother, Vernon L. Osborn.She met her husband while working in the cafeteria at Gallon Field Air Base. She also worked for several years in the cafeterias of Valley Springs Elementary and Estes Elementary, from which she retired. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed craft work at home, including crocheting, embroidering, making Christmas ornaments and ceramics. Mrs. Maynor is survived by two sons, James Ted Maynor and his wife, Shannon, of Asheville and Ronnie Maynor and his wife, Linda, of Fletcher; three sisters, Joy Fisher and Eva Osborn of Boise, Idaho, and Norma Yonida of Emmett, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with the Rev. WEAVERVILLE - James Edward Maynor, 79, a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Mission St. Joseph's Health System in Asheville. Mr. Maynor was born July 4, 1923. He was the last child born to the late John and Elizabeth Phipps Maynor. James proudly served as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps of Hot Springs. Mr. Maynor was very proud that all of his sons had served in the U.S. military. He was employed with Beacon Manufacturing for 26 years and Shaw Industries for more than 10 years. Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Ledford Maynor; five sons, Ralph and wife, Florence, Wade and wife, Linda, Wayne and Troy and Zale and wife, Elaine; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. Tim Lewis and Davy Shelton officiating. Ministering through music will be Eternal Harmony of Weaverville. Burial will be in West Memorial Park with Mr. Maynor's sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers. Asheville - Johnny Odell Helton, 68, of 80 Adams Hill Road, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004. Mr. Helton was born on July 7, 1936, in Buncombe County, where he had lived all of his life. He was formerly employed with Steelcase. Johnny was the son of the late Dallas and Bessie Maynor Helton. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Faye Fisher and a brother, Kenneth Helton. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Joyce Burleson Helton; daughter, Brenda H. Jones and her husband, Bobby; son, Keith Helton; sister, Aileen Jones and her husband, Donald; brother, Tommy Helton and his wife, Ruth; and sister-in-law, Janice Helton, all of Asheville; grandchildren, Kelly Brockwell and her husband, Tim, Curtis Jones, Brittany and Brandy Helton and Robert and Monica Murphy; and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Madison Brockwell. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Steve Brockwell officiating. Burial will be in Burleson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
