Pearl L. Roberts, 75, 705 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Roberts was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late John Wesley and Bina Pitts Mays. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Tipton Roberts, December 4, 1986, and three brothers, Henry Mays, Herman Mays and Dale Mays.

Mrs. Roberts was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Leon-Ferenbach Inc., and a former employee of 7-Hour Laundry and Dry Cleaners.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Johanna and Sal Palumbo, Oakton, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Eugene and Janice Bailey, Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Rada Brown, Asheboro, N.C.; a brother, Earl Mays, Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Kimberly Vaccaro, Reston, Va., Alexis Palumbo, Oakton, Va., and Sherry Jewell, Ft. Myers, Fla.; a grandson, Jason Payne, Atlanta, Ga.; two great-granddaughters, Josephine Arabela Vaccaro, Reston, Va., and Carly Nicole Jewell, Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a special friend, Effie Holder, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERTS -- Graveside services for Pearl L. Roberts, 75, 705 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, August 23, 2000, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 25, at Treadway Cemetery, Elizabethton, with Rev. D.C. Byrd officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Scott Caudle, Dr. John L. Freeman, Dr. Robert Walter, Dr. Arnold Hopland, David Hilton and Dr. Amy Thomas. Special thanks to Johnson City Hospice and Homecare. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 705 Hemlock Street, Elizabethton, any time. For those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Tennessee Christian Home, 517 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.



Mr. Earl W. Mays, 80, 228 West Doe Avenue, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007, at the residence of his son.

Mr. Mays was born on December 31, 1926, and was a life long resident of Carter County. He was the son of the late John and Bina Mays and was an employee of North American Rayon Corporation for 53 years. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He loved to hunt.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Mays was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Marie Teague Mays, on February 16, 2002; his brothers, Henry Mays, Dale Mays, Herman Mays; and his sister, Pearl Roberts.

Mr. Mays is survived by one son, Wesley Mays, of Unicoi; and his adopted daughter, Shirley McKinney, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Karen Walters and Clint Mays, of Austin, TX; one sister, Rada Brown, Asheboro, NC; one special niece and her husband, Johanna and Salvatore Palumbo, Oakton, Virginia; and two nephews, Gene Bailey, Orange Park, FL, and Jimmy Brown of Clayton, NC.

The funeral service for Mr. Mays will be conducted on Sunday, March 18, 2007, at 8:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton, with Chaplain Doug Hinshaw officiating. The Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel prior to the service, and at other times at the home of his son, 2104 Upper Stone Mountain Road, Unicoi.

The graveside service and interment will be on Monday, March 19, 2007, at 11:00 AM in Bell Cemetery, Unicoi. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Monday to go in precession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from Family and friends, honorary pallbearers will be Sal Palumbo, Gene Bailey, Jimmy Brown, Jason McKinney, Van Davis, Tom Smith and Lee Slagle.
