As cousins, these two Bert(s) are often mixed-up. One has Birt on his tombstone, at the Britain Cmtry, Wade Chapel.
George W BRITAIN, b.1827 TN McMinn Co., was the son of John BRITTEN
(which is the spelling on John’s marriage record).
He had a son, Mark, who had a son, Hubbert Mainard BRITAIN (this writer’s ancestor).
There was also an Albert Ross BRITAIN, listed under George W BRITAIN,
who had a son, Hershel Herbert BRITAIN.
So, the two Berts were cousins.
At one time, I was listing my ancestor as Birt and the other as Bert,
just because of the misspelling on the tombstone.
My sincere apologies to his descendant named after him.
