We have found records of a Nicholas Nethercoat (Netherwitt) who came to Virginia from England in 1648. The next record that has been found is of the North Farnham Parish Register. This register shows a Nethercutt, Robert son of John and Mary, 6 August 1686 and Nethercutt, John son of John and Mary, 2 September 1687.
It appears that Nicholas Nethercutt had a son named John and John had two sons, Robert and John. We have not found any documentation that shows Robert and John had any children.
The first document that we find on GEORGE NETHERCUTT is a land deed dated 2 March 1732 in the Precinct of Carteret in the County of Bath & Province of North Carolina. Was this George Nethercutt the brother of Robert and John or did Nicholas Nethercoat have another son, other than John, who was named George or William? This is the information we are still searching for.
Three Nethercutt cousins, Ancel W. Nethercutt, Harold L. Nethercutt and Jack B. Nethercutt did extensive research on this family name from 1945 to 1990. Alas, Ancel Nethercutt's papers were lost after his death in 1981, but those of J. B. and Harold Nethercutt still exist. Since then, more documentation has been found and we are finding a little more each year.
The GEDCOM that I have put up on Worldconnect differs a little from what has been accepted the last 20 or 30 years. This is the way it I see it.
