For over 300 years the Neithercutt/Nethercutt has been spelled many different ways. In one deed alone it was spelled three ways. We have found it spelled in Deeds, Wills, Census and Indexes as follows: NICHCOTT, NETTLECORD, NRISHRUCUTT, NUTHERCUT, NETHERCOAT, NETHERRITT, NETHIEUL, NEATHERCOTE, NESHERCUT, WETHERCUTT and numerous other variations.
Hi! My name is Lee Neithercutt. During my research of this name, I found a cousin, Jan Nethercutt, who is also involved in genealogy. We became good friends and cohorts in researching this family. We have made, and continue to make, an extensive search for documents that include this surname. The earliest one we have found is a 1623 document that lists a Hugh Nichcott. We think it is very possible that he was the first Neithercutt/Nethercutt to come to the United States.
The Neithercutt/Nethercutt family is of English descent. They migrated to the USA, Ireland and Scotland. Most of the information we have is on the early settlers in the USA. While researching, we also found documents on some of the Neithercutt/Nethercutt families who came to the USA from Ireland and Scotland in the early 1800s.
