"Robert Lathrop succeeded to his father's estates in Cherry Burton and added to them. He died in 1558. His will is dated at North Burton (Sheriburton), July 16, 1558 and was proved at York October 20, 1558. He was, of course, a good Roman Catholic, and left bequests to the church, as well as to his wife, Ellen, and children.

JOHN LATHROP ( -1499)
"John Lathrop or Lowthorpe as the name was then spelled lived in the early part of the 16th century in Cherry Burton, about four miles from Lowthorpe (Lowthorpe -- meaning low village -- is a small parish of about 150 persons in the Wapentake of Dickering, Eadt Riding, or Yorkshire, England). John appears in 1545 in the Yorkshire Subsidy Rolls, assessed for double the amount of any other person dwelling in that parish. John left a son, Robert, mentioned below, and three daughters, whose names are unknown, although their families are mentioned in their brother's will."
