OH."2 "Jehu Jr. bought land in Sec. 21 , Wayne Township, Belmont County, OH on May 31, 1828" 9 10 Dear Friends, Jehu Thomas and his wife Susannah, having removed to settle within the limits of your meeting, request a Certificate for them and their nine minor children, to wit, Hannah, Rachel, Aquilla, Sarah, Samuel, John, Susan Jane, Elizabeth Ann and Mary Ann Thomas to be joined thereto, and no obstruction appearing, we therefore recommend them as members of our Society to your Christian care and oversight and remain your friends, signed in and by order of Deer Creek Monthly Meeting held at Fawn the 17th of 12th mo. 1829. by Asa Jones, Clk, Lydia Hopkins, Clk10 11At Deer Creek Monthly Meeting held at Fawn the 17th of 12th mo. 1829 . . . . .In the 2nd month 1828 Jehu Thomas requested a certificate for him-self Susanna his wife and nine minor Children Hannah, Rachel, Aquilla, Sarah, Samuel, John, Susan Jane, Elizabeth Ann and Mary Ann Thomas to recommend them to Somersett Monthly Meeting, State of Ohio. Asa Jones and Anthony Jones were appointed to join common Friends to prepare one. But the next month he withdrew his request on account of the unsettled State of Friends in that quarter. The committee appointed to prepare a certificate for Jehu Thomas and family processed one which was read, approved, signed and directed to be recorded and forwarded . . . .11
From Somerset, Ohio MM records "1831, 8, 29. Jehu & w. Susannah Thomas and ch. Hannah, Rachel, Aquilla, Sarah, Samuel, John, Susan, Jane, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth Ann rocf (received on certificate from) Deer Creek, MD MM dated 1831, 6, 10." 12
Two Jehu Thomases (Sr. and Jr.) are listed in the 1810 Census for Harford Co., MD8 pp. 132, 148
1840 census, page 8, lists Jehu Thomas jr. age 50-60, wife age 50-60, sons ages 5-10, 10-15, 15-20 and daughters ages 10-15, 15-20, 15-20.13 If ages and birth dates are correct, the sons should be Nathan (1834), Abner (1829), and John (1822) Jahu Thomas age 66 and Susanna Thomas age 60 (?) with a son Nathan age 16 are in the 1850 census14, page 76.
