"Job was the seventh child of John and Frances (Coggin) Whitcomb. He was a surveyor, assisting in surveying the town of Lancaster in 1669. During the Indian raids of 1675/6, he left Lancaster, MA, with the company of his wife's family to Wethersfield, CT. They must have lived for a time in Cambridge, MA, as the birth of his third child is recorded there. He owned land in Wethersfield in 1680."

According to "Marvin's history of Lancaster" page 17, Jobe was a surveyor("Job Whitcomb to carry the chain").
Between Feb 10 1676 and 1678, Job moved with Reverend Rowlandson out ofLancaster due to indian raids. The town was then burned by the indians,except the church and one other building. They moved to Wethersfield, CT.

I Job Whitcombe, being in perfect memory, do ordain, constitute andappoint this Writing to be my last Will & Testament: I do give unto mywife Mary Whitcombe all my Estate, either in House or Land or otherthings to be at her Dispose for her own good and the Good of my Children,excepting what Legacies are hereafter expressed, which by my Will aregiven to my Children; and if any of the sd. Estate shall remain in herhands at the day of her decease, or if she marry, then the sd. Estate tobe equally divided amongst my 4 children when they shall come to age,that is, when my two sons attain the age of 21 years, and my twodaughters the age of 18 years. I give unto my son Job my Musket and BackSword and Belt, at the age of 16 years. (Marriage 2) "Entered October 7th, 1623: Paid for Oct. 8, Oct 15, Oct 22. John Danham from England, widower of Suzanna Keno(&#00063;), accompanied by Thomas Balliou (sic: Ballou in the Dutch transcriptin), his future father-in-law with Abigail Bailliou, spinster, also from England, accompanied by Ann Balliou, her sister, married before Alphen and Groenendyc, bailliffs on the XXII d. of October 1622."

Info. on John Dunham included in info. on John Goodman includes the following (http://members.aol.com/calebj/goodman.html) "He [John Goodman] did not have his name changed to John Dunham as is sometimes preposerously claimed.
There is a John Dunham recorded in Leyden records and he was a district and prominent member of the Leyden congregation who emigrated to America later (between 1628-1632). For those who are interested in quality information about John Dunham, his English origins were recentely discovered and publiched in "The American Genealogist", 71:130-133. He was from Clophill and Henlow, Bedford, England and may have had ties with the Mayflower Tilley and Cooper families which were also from Henlow, Bedford."

At the May session, 1719:--Upon the petition of Lieut. John Marsh ofHartford, and Dea. John Buell of Lebanon, with many others, prayingliberty under committees appointed by the towns of Hartford and Windsor,to settle a town westward of Farmington at a place called Bantam: "ThisAssembly doe grant liberty and full power unto the said John Marsh, JohnBuell and partners, settlers, being in the whole fifty-seven in number,to settle a town at said Bantam; . . . said town to be known by the nameof Litchfield." Mention of the tract of land which included Norfolkfollows the above: "And forasmuch as there is a large tract of land thatlieth eastward, westward and northwardly of said town, being boundedeastward by Farmington and Symsbury, and from thence extending northwardunto the Massachusetts line, by which line the tract is bounded north,and westwardly by the colony line, and southwardly by Waterbury,Litchfield and Woodbury, and from Woodbury town line unto the said colonyline; to the end that the said tract of land may be improved for the goodof the colony and be regularly settled,--be it enacted by the Governor(etc.),--that the whole of said tract of land shall lie for the furtherdispose of this Assembly." This "large tract of land" comprised what wasafterward laid out and settled as the towns of Kent, Cornwall, Canaan,Salisbury, Norfolk, Goshen, Winchester, New Hartford, Torrington,Harwinton, Hartland, Colebrook and Barkhampsted. A serious controversyregarding this land arose between the General Court on one side and thetowns of Hartford and Windsor on the other, caused by a grant of theentire tract to Hartford and Windsor by the General Court, in January,1686. The occasion for this grant was as follows:--
