OBITUARY: Obituary of Margaret Smead from the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, 22 Feburary 1917;
Mrs. Margaret Smead, aged 77 years, died yesterday morning at the family residence, 1417
East Washington boulevard, following an illness due to cancer. The husband, Albert Smead,
is the only surviving relative. He is blind and being left alone, his case is a very pitiful one.
Mrs. Smead was born in Stark county, Ohio, and came to Allen county with her parents in
1862. Four years later she was united in marriage to Mr. Smead at the Cathedral. She
was a member of that congregation and of the Rosary societies of both St. Mary's and the
Cathedral church. Mr. and Mrs Smead had been patients at St. Joseph's hospital for some
time but several weeks ago they were removed to their home when it was thought they had
fully recovered.
Funeral Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the residence, and at 9 a.m. at the Cathedral. Interment
in the Catholic cemetery.
