Wartick Family

Posted by William F.Hrudicka <bwrudy@hotmail.com> on Wed, 05 Jul 2000

Surname: Wartick, McGartland, Hrudicka

Yesterday being the 4th of July make think back to my ancestors who gave up all in Germany
and Ireland to start all over in America. It all started for our family in the 1830 when Simon
and Margaret Wartick left Darmstadt Hesse Germany to come to America. They settled in
Fayette County PAabout 1836 with 3 children.. They stayed in Pa for almost 19 years than
migrated to Adams County to seek their dream in 1855 and settled some land near Camp
Point. Here they raised 2 Girls and 5 boys. Bet they wouldn't relize how big that Family
would grow well over the 800 i have liste in my Family Genealogy which will be coming
soon. Of these Warticks 4 served in the Civil War and Uncle Joseph received the
Congressional Medal of Honor at Vickburg and Uncle John lost an eye.

After the Civil war they came back to Adams County to Farm and seek brides. Two of the
Brother Married sisters the Mullen Girls, Eliza and Mary (my Great Grandmother).

This also started the moves of the Wartick Boys
Joseph and John went to Kansas, Anthony to Missouri,
Simon stayerd in Adsams County and Farmed near Camp Point.
In the Years after the Civil war A group of Brothers from Ireland settled in Adams County
also the McGartland boys, William, Frank, John and Michael. In fact their farm was just
below the Wartick's farm. May be this is why Frank Married Sarah Jane (Sallie) and William
marrird Margaret Nancy Newland who were counsins. Most likely women were scarse and it
was natural for men to marry neighbors.

William stayed in Adams county and ihis Grandson Donald McGartland still has a farm near
Bowen, Il Franf Moved to MonreCity and Farmed there for a long time before he retired and
died in Quincy in 1942. to be continued...
