NOTE about this census by Brian Smead: This census page can be very confusing for a number of reasons. One, it has two sons living with John M. Smead, Thomas H. Smead and John H. Smead. John H. Smead appears to be in another household at first BUT the relationship column has him as son, and then has his family listed below him. I believe that John H. Smead and his family lived with his parents before getting his own farm in Cedar Creek township. The other confusing part is the entries of Charles G. and Henry H. Smead as grandsons listed just below Thomas H. Smead as son. For many years, because of this I thought Thomas H. Smead as my GG grandfather but both of Charles G. Smeads marriage certificates and his death certificate says his father was Edward C. Smead. Thomas H. Smead became a widower in 1875 and died in 1888. I don't believe he had any children. I have been through every page of the Allen county census, page by page, and find no entry of Edward Smead, his wife or other children however he died in 1887, three months before his 6th son was born, in Adams Township, Allen county, near the town of New Haven

Emma Koller, head, owns home valued at $15,000; no radio in home, able to read and write, age 66, widowed, b OH, fb PA, mb OH. No others listed in household.
DEATH: California death index 1940-1997; Emma Koller, SSN: 0; Female, b 20 Oct 1863, b OH, death date 8 Feb 1945, d San Diego, Mother's maiden name: Hatfield; Father's surname: Tritch.
MARRIAGE: From the obituary of Emma's brother, Joseph G. Tritch, Oct. 1927: He was the brother of Mrs. [Emma] Koller of 741 West A. street [Ontario, San Bernardino, CA].
NOTE: e-mail from Brian S. 2/2/2004
I also have found a Henry Koller in 1900 with a wife of Emma and 5 children.
I believe this to be Emma Tritch, sister of Joseph Gear Tritch however the
month and year on the census in 1900 do not even come close to what Emma's
birthdate is on the California Death Index. Off by a year and a half I
believe, so I didn't add the census info into the files. I forgot to take
Henry's name off my files before sending the report to you two also but I
will be doing that. I don't like unproved info in my files.
NOTE: e-mail from Marianne 2/3/02004
I didn't have any better luck finding Emma than you did in 1900-1920, but did run across a possible lead...I noticed that there was an Emma Amanda Tritch listed in the Ancestry World Tree Project pages that married Clarence Victor Widener and had a daughter named Olive Edith Widener born 14 Aug 1882 in Avalon, Livingston, MO. Since that was where Emma was in 1880, maybe she was married more than once. Unfortunately, I have been unable to locate this family in the census either. Her parent's names supposedly came from Olive's application for a social security card.
