John Benton Fassett
Josiah Fassett married, in Connecticut, Abigail Stevens, born inPennsylvania, April 2, 1771, daughter of Lieutenant Asa Stevens.Lieutenant Stevens was one of the garrison left to guard Wyoming, and waskilled by the Indians during the massacre of the inhabitants of thattown, July 3, 1778. His name is inscribed on the monument erected to thememory of those who fell on that memorable day. Abigail was but a childof seven at the time of her father's death, and was taken back toConnecticut by her mother, walking most of the way. Her mother with theolder children later returned to Pennsylvania to claim the land herhusband had possessed, but Abigail was left behind with a Captain Smithwith whom she lived until her marriage. Josiah and Abigail (Stevens)Fassett were the parents of four sons and four daughters. The sons wereJasper, John, see forward, Josiah Jr., and James. The daughters were:Sally (Mrs. John Sturtevant), Fanny (Mrs. Robinson), Hannah (Mrs.Edwards) and Lucy (Mrs. Thomas Wright). The sons all settled on the farmsgiven them by their father and the daughters all married and settled inthe neighborhood.
Vol 21, page 211 of DAR Lineage books lists her name as Lucy. Was that anickname?
Another unk source had her birth date as 11 Mar 1771.

MOTHER-CONFLICT: If Jonathan Steven's birth date is really 1732, then the mother may be Mary GOVE rather than Mary WILDER?? (Father Simon Stevens married Mary Gove after 1729. It is suspected Mary Wilder died before 1729, unless he was a polygamist??) However, source for Jonathan's father's children, lists him as #2, where #1 b 1702 and #3 b 1705 ...?.
