Orville Earl Yochem

Army portrait of Orville

Orville was born August 16, 1894 in Los Angeles, California, the only child of John Mathias Yochem and
Eliza Augusta Gimpel. He moved a great many times with his family, his fondest childhood memories being
of the 2 years he spent in Roeskeville, Indiana while his mother cared for her ailing mother -
by far the longest time he ever spent in one spot.

Throughout his life, Orville lived modestly and invested wisely. While working as a bookkeeper,
he invested in land speculation. When stocks fell during the Great Depression, he was in a good position
to pick up some real bargains, which helped him reach his childhood goal of retiring by the age of 40.

Orville spent 8 years as a widower before passing away in Huntington Beach, California on March 18, 1979, at the age of 84.
