Mary Ann Leslie Robinson

head shot of Mary Ann

Mary Ann was born in Monroe county, Ohio in the year 1840, to Levi Larkins Leslie and Sarah Thomas. Her mother
died when she was about ten years of age. When twelve years of age she moved with her father to Wisconsin.
Soon after this her older sister left home and upon her was placed the burden and responsibility of caring for
her father's house. She was married to John Samuel Robinson in 1858, when about 18 years of age. Nine children
were born to her. (NOTE: most of this is taken from her obituary)
From childhood she had been accustomed to pioneer life. It was so even in Ohio, her native state. It was so in
Wisconsin, and much of the time during her stay in Nebraska. She inherited a strong religious nature, and her
inclination to peity was encouraged by her christian father. Early in life she joined the United Brethren church,
then the Presbyterian when married, and the Methodist Church when in NE other churches were not available, and last
became a zealous member of the Seventh day Adventist church. She was noted for her conscientious devotion to duty,
whether to her home or to her church. She had her full share of the sorrows and sufferings of this life, but her
christian faith never failed her and her patience was allowed to have its perfect work.
It was while at an annual camp meeting of this church at Fremont, Nebraska that Mary Ann died, when she was seized
with seized with the sickness which after ten days in spite of all that medical aid and expert nursing could do,
terminated in her death, on Sept. 14, 1896, at the age of 56.
