John was born Nov. 15, 1837 in Washington county, Indiana, to Henry Robinson and Sarah Farmer, being
the 4th of 11 children. His family moved to Tippecanoe county then Kosciusko county, Indiana, and
later to Wisconsin. On April 28, 1858, at the age of 20, John married Mary Ann Leslie in Orion,
Richland county, Wisconsisn, and they made their home in Boaz or Dayton of the same county, where their
first five children were born.
In 1871 they moved with other relatives to Boone county, Nebraska,
where 4 more children were born, where he and Mary remained till their deaths.
The first meeting of the Methodist Church in Dayton or Cedar Twp. were held in the Robinson's dugout,
and later in the Robinson schoolhouse, a sod building located east of the town of Dayton.
John was a farmer by occupation, and also served in the Civil War. The Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids
sits on land originally purchased by John and Mary Ann. Four years following the death of his wife,
John remarried to "Miss Clark" of Tennessee, in 1900. He passed away 5 years later, on Aug. 26, 1905
at the age of 67, and is buried in the Elgin Cemetery, West Cedar Valley, Elgin, Antelope, Nebraska.
