Johann Gottfried Gimpel
"John"
Born April 3, 1824 in Drescha, a small village by Altenburg, Germany John immigrated to North America
around 1845. After spending a couple of years in New York and Illinois, he settled in Michigan City, IN.
Jan. 14, 1866, at the age of 42, he married Mary Meese, recently immigrated from Waren, Germany.
Together John and Mary had two sons and one daughter, Eliza, who is my Great Grandmother.
John fought in the Civil War (North), and was working in a brickyard in 1880.
He died Feb. 5, 1895 of Brights Disease, at the age of 71.
John Gimpel, Mary and their son (either Walter or Will), at thier home in Roeskeville, IN.
