Edward A. Whitcomb

Edward was born Oct. 24, 1843 in South Auburn, Schuylkil, Pennsylvania, to Anderson Dana Whitcomb and Mary Kinter,
being the eldest of 6 children. He married Hannah Fletcher in Polo, Ogle, Illinois on 10 Dec 1865, at the age of
22, with whom he had 7 children, most or all being born in Friend, Saline, Nebraska. There's some confusion on
whether Edward had a first wife Heonnah for a couple of years, but this is probably actually Hannah.
Edward died in Broomton, Tompkins, New York on 6 Jun 1924, at the age of 80.

Edward served in the military around 1861, before being married. His occupations included Owner of
the Friend Telegraph 1877, editor of a newspaper, politican (Nebraska Legislator 2 years, County Rep.
Commission 6 years), and postmaster of Friend 1875-1885, publisher.
One biography notes of Edward "He was abnormally muscular and his nerves were under such perfect control
that he was able to climb great heights and maintain his balance. At 'raisings' he 'walked the rafters'
from eaves to ridge pole, up one side and down the other, and would then stand on the peak of the front
gable and drink from a bottle."
