MAHOMMEDAN FUNERAL IN LIVERPOOL. - The first funeral which has taken place with Mahommedan rites in Liverpool for 35 years, took place on Wednesday. the body interred was that of Mr Baho Eddris, formerly of Cairo, and who came to this country come two years ago with Mr Philip Rathbone, JP, as one of that gentleman's attendants. Since then he had been in the service of Mr Rathbone as butler. The trying weather subjected the deceased to great inconvenience, and he became seriously ill on Thursday last, and although every care and medical attention were given to him he expired on Sunday evening from inflammation of the lungs. As the deceased was a member of the Liverpool Moslem congregation, he was interred with all the rites and ceremonies usually observed at Mahommedan funerals. The hearse and coaches proceeded from Mr Rathbone's residence to the mosque, Brougham-terrace, West Derby-road. The corpse remained in the hearse outside the mosque while the friends of the deceased, and a large number of the members of the Moslem Society, assembled in the mosque, where nimaz was said. The friends subsequently went to the grave, the Necropolis having been chosen as the place of interment, and the remaining portion of the ceremony was performed at the graveside. The service was conducted in both Arabic and English. Mr Syed Mahommed Younus acted as muezzin, Mr Power and Mr W H Quilliam as mollahs. A number of flowers and wreaths were placed upon the coffin, which was buried with the feet of the corpse towards Mecca. Amongst others present at the ceremony were Mr Rathbone, Mrs Rathbone, and several members of their family, and the deceased's fellow servants.
