Through our lives, we at some have Heroes. Whether they are Pop singers, Movies Stars, Sportsmen/women or whoever.
Some people never meet their heroes, they just admire them from afar. Other actually meet their heroes.
My Heroes are family members. Most I knew for years, but one I only knew for 5 years, when he sadly died. But like the others he left a lasting impression.
Two of my Heroes was a well known in the Newcastle area, the others were only known to the people they had met and known. But all of them in a special way, left a lasting impression on everyone who knew them, none so more than myself.
My first hero, is my Dad.
My Dad, came into my life when I was two years old. Yes, he was my Step-Father, but that was only a legal term.
They say that you can pick your friends but not your family. Well I would pick my Dad, everytime, not just as my Dad, but as a friend.
I knew my Dad for 49 years, before he sadly died. And in that time, he was kind, loving and above all a Giant amongst Men. He would always help anybody who was in trouble, no job was too much for him
He was loved and adored, by all of his grandchildren. He was a beautiful singer and a harmonica player. But his best attribute was his sense of humour. Okay some of his jokes were corny, but you still laughed.
One day, I remember, it was a hot day, & the front door of the house was open. As my Dad, came through the door. My Mam, said, "Leave the door Jim". He replied, "I was not going to take it with me"
That memory along with countless others will remain me, and remind me of my DAD.
