| ...the daughter of John Francis Gillis and Ida Gallant
of Glace Bay, NS. Mama was born in Reserve Mines in 1907 and Da was born
in nearby Glace Bay in 1903 and worked in the coals mines for 54 years.
I am the middle child of nine children. I recieived my BA from Mount St.
Vincent University in Halifax in 1989, and my B.Ed. from St Francis Xavier
University in Antigonish in 1993. Previous to returning to University,
I worked as a Receptionist/Bookkeeper for three dentists, secretary/bookkeeper
Dept of Social Services, and previous to
that I was Mayor Dan A Munroe's confidential secretay in Glace Bay. |

We are a music-loving family, most of whom can accompany themselves on piano or guitar or accordion while they sing. My father played traditional music on the piano and I understand once had a radio show from Marconi Towers in Glace Bay, long before CJCB took over as our local media station. I still "sing around" so to speak in a charity capacity - for food banks, community endeavors and for shut-ins. I also am a member of St. John the Baptist's choir in River Bourgeois. |

Family lines I am interested in are: Benoit, Lejeune, Gallant, Lee, Battersby, Gillis. I am having particular trouble trying to find information on Auguste Benoit s/o Jean-Baptiste Benoit and Celeste Doiron of Tracadie. Also working on the Lejeune line and am interested in Jacques Lejeune and proving that Jean Christophe is his father. Would love to have anyone's help. |
