| I am Edward Leonard Galvin, born in Somerville, Massachusetts
on 23 September 1947. I am the only child of the late Robert Fulton
Galvin and Mary Frances McDonald. We moved to Winchester, Mass. in
1951 where I went all through public school graduating from Winchester
High School in 1965. I received my B.A. in English/Journalism from
Northeastern University in 1970, and my M.A. in History from N.U. ten years
later.
|
| I married Elizabeth Joan [Beth] Hanson on 25 November
1982 in Wakefield,
Mass. We have three children: * Amanda Hanson Galvin, born 12 December 1985 in Albany, N.Y. * Hilary Hanson Galvin, born 30 September 1988 in Albany, N.Y. * Zachary Hanson Galvin, born 11 January 1991 in La Habra, California. |
| I am connected to Isle Madame through my mother's family
- the McDONALDs. She was a direct descendant of Edward McDonald who was
granted Lot No. 1 at D'Escousse in 1790 by the Government of Cape Breton.
My mother's grandparents, William McDonald and Seraphine McDonald, were
second cousins so we have two main lines back to Edward McDonald.
I also have two main lines of POIRIER, many lines of JOSSE, and descend
from SAMSON, McGRATH, and BONIN. Further back than that I run into
most of the families from whom we all descend. My family is
almost exclusively from D'Escousse [except of course for my Newfoundland
lines, and my Irish connections]. My McDonald family and an ahnentafel
report are available on my website at
http://web.syr.edu/~elgalvin/gen/
|
| My main hobby is of course genealogy although I am finding
less and less time for it as my children go through their teen years.
I am heavily involved in cub scouts with my son Zac and just finished a
two-year stint as his den leader. I also collect postcards - mostly
from Montauk, NY where we summered for many years.
|
| I started working on family history in 1967 when I made
my first trip to D'Escousse. That means I've been at it for 35 years.
In addition to my Isle Madame families I have worked on my GALVIN, REARDON,
DOLAN, DANAHY, SULLIVAN and ROUST lines. I have also done work on
other families that I am not related to such as the McALLISTERs of Vermont.
