| My name is Jeanne Joyce-Stone and I was born in our Joyce
ancestral home, located "up McDonald's hill", next door to my sister Tilly's
home in D'Escousse. Believe it or not, it's still standing!!
My father, Francis Leo Joyce, who passed away in 1986, inherited the homestead because he was the oldest son born to Robert Joyce & Katherine Petitpas. My mother, Anita Evangeline Samson, who was born in Poirierville, married my father, a widower after the death of his 1st wife Yvonne Langlois, in 1938. Mother is the daughter of Angus Samson & Georgina Bonin. |

My parents had 7 children, 6 girls and 1 boy. My oldest sister Yvonne was adopted by my parents at birth, but died at the age of 5 in a house fire in D`Escousse. My brother Lloyd was the only boy born to my parents but died a few hours after birth. Catherine (Mrs. Vernie Bowen) is the oldest living sibling born in 1942, Myself in 1944 (Mrs. John Stone). Irene (Mrs. Jerry LeBlanc (divorced)) in 1946, Barbara (Mrs. Blaise Boudreau) in 1949, and the baby, Matilda (Tilly) (Mrs. Robert Goyetche) in 1951. Tilly is also a member of the Listserv. |

I worked at St. Ann`s Hospital in Arichat, until I married my husband John Stone in 1964. We spent the first 5 years of our marriage traveling from Quebec to Germany, Ontario and back to Arichat because John was in the military. We have three children. Our daughter Mona Lisa was born in Germany in 1966, Dean was born in Kingston, Ontario in 1968 and Blake John (B.J.) was born in Sydney, N.S in 1976. Our daughter Lisa gave us our only grandchild, Devon, in 1985. Over the years I have been employed in a variety of occupations, ranging from switchboard operator, nursing Aid, and department manager. I owned and operated my own upholstery business that employed 3 people for years. I was forced into retirement in 1992 because of a work- related accident which left me with chronic back and hip pain. |

I have been involved in genealogy since 1979, when my cousin-in-law Kim Mayo-Isner presented me with a " Family Record Book ", as a Christmas gift. Since then, it has been an ongoing project for me, giving me many hours of pleasure. |
| My husband & I are now 'empty nesters'. Dean lives
in Edmonton, Alberta; B.J. in Toronto, Ontario; & Lisa lives in Dartmouth,
Nova Scotia with her son Devon.
Lisa and I are very close and make it a priority to do something together every week. Mostly we see a movie during the winter but in the summer we go on excursions to the beaches, flee markets, yard sales, cemeteries, shopping & researching at the public archives & museums. John & I hope to move back to Isle Madame in Three
years when he retires and open a Bed & Breakfast, depending on our
wellness of body and mind!

I have always been a homebody, preferring to spend time with my family on my time off and never got involved in outside projects until last year when I helped Jeanne Belford organized the Isle Madame Genealogy Summit. It was a memorable experience for me & I learned a great deal about myself and the people I became involved with. |

My hobbies these days are, of course, genealogy, first & foremost, but as you've probably already guessed, I really enjoy making web sites. I also do Palm & Tarot reading, a gift handed down through the generations on my mother's side. My mother always had a pot of tea brewing on the stove when friends came over & got their tea leaves read. Lisa is very gifted in the psychic as well. As a young girl I always knew when something important was about to happen, and the feelings grew stronger when I had children. I always knew what they were up to, which bugged the heck out of them. :) I love reading biographies, so you know I'll read all of yours! Give me a good movie, some buttered popcorn & I'm in seventh heaven! I love traditional country music and if God calls me home before I get to Nashville, we're going to have words! :) My ancestors are all from D`Escousse dating back to the
1700's.
