Henry Foster was born in either Maryland or Massachusetts. He moved to Fayette County, Kentucky, near Davis Fork. There, in about 1787, he and his wife Rebecca Darnall began farming with 50 acres bought from John Craig. They had two cattle, three horses, one slave, and by 1804 their farm had grown to 150 acres.102

Henry Foster is not listed in Fayette County tax lists for the years 1785-1786. The first year his name appears is in 1787, so it is safe to assume that he arrived around then. His name is listed in:

Kentucky was made a state in 1792. By the following year, Clark County was formed by splitting up Bourbon and Fayette Counties.

By 1796, Clark County had been divided up into two counties, and Henry found himself living in Montgomery County! In the 1810 federal census, Henry is listed as living near the Yates, McDaniels, Turpins, and a man named James Nelson, who would later move to Indiana. Henry Would move there too, and name a son after him: James Nelson Foster.103
