Snowball
completed 1988

This was the first "old" top I acquired. Jim and I found it in an antique store in Banning, California one Sunday afternoon. I was still a new quilter, and had no idea what the name of it was; I just knew I loved the softness of it. That was in 1986. I didn't start quilting it until 1987, finishing it in 1988. I was afraid I would ruin it! It's my favorite nap quilt now!

This quilt measures 68" x 72" and I have quilted flowers in the center of each snowball. The snowballs are approximately 4 1/2" across (they vary!) The flowers are the same pattern I quilted in Blaine and Elaine's wedding quilt.

Shoo Fly
finished in 1993

In February of 1992 we made a trip to Fresno, California to see a quilt show. After we'd viewed all of the quilts and bought all the things I wanted to, we made a trip to the town of Clovis, adjacent to Fresno. Downtown Clovis is known for it's antique stores, and it was in one of these that I found a little bag full of quilt pieces. They had not even been put into blocks! Well, the challenge presented itself, and I answered the call! I pieced together the 15 blocks that there were pieces for, and then searched thru my stash for older materials to make more blocks! I added 15 blocks with material from my collection.

This block has material leftover from a dress my mother made for me when I was in the first grade - c. 1949! In these blocks I did outline quilting with a heart in the middle of each square.

This is the pattern I quilted in every other block. I got the stencil from an Amish quilt store in the middle of a corn field in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

I used the green fabric to border the blocks, and used an old red and white small checked material to bind it with. This quilt was completed in February of 1993 and measures 75" x 64". Each block is 8" square.
